MLA引用格式解析+引用示例

　　留学过程中，论文是一项大任务。而在论文写作中，格式引用又是一项大任务。当你在你的论文中直接引用别人的作品时，你将根据它们的长度不同来格式化引用。下面是一些在论文中加入引文的基本准则(MLA格式)。注意，MLA中的所有页面都应该是双倍行距。如果还不会使用MLA格式进行引用，各位同学可以参考这篇文章分享的引用示例。

　　1.简短的引语

　　如果你的文章中有简短的引语(四行或更少的散文或三行诗)，需要将引语用双引号括起来。在文本引用中提供作者和具体页码(注意，如果是诗，需要提供行号)，并在作品引用页上包括完整的参考文献。标点符号，如句号、逗号和分号都需要在括号引用之后。

　　eg1：According to some, dreams express "profound aspects of personality" (Foulkes 184), though others disagree.

　　According to Foulkes's study, dreams may express "profound aspects of personality" (184).

　　Is it possible that dreams may express "profound aspects of personality" (Foulkes 184)?

　　eg2：Cullen concludes, "Of all the things that happened there / That's all I remember" (11-12).

　　2.长引文

　　对于超过四行散文或三行诗句的引语，需要把引语放在独立的文本块中，并省略引号。在新的一行开始引语，整个引语从左距缩进1/2英寸，同时保持双倍行距。你的圆括号引用应该在结束标点符号之后。引用诗句时，需要保持原来的断行。

　　eg1：Nelly Dean treats Heathcliff poorly and dehumanizes him throughout her narration: They entirely refused to have it in bed with them, or even in their room, and I had no more sense, so, I put it on the landing of the stairs, hoping it would be gone on the morrow. By chance, or else attracted by hearing his voice, it crept to Mr. Earnshaw's door, and there he found it on quitting his chamber. Inquiries were made as to how it got there; I was obliged to confess, and in recompense for my cowardice and inhumanity was sent out of the house. (Bronte 78)

　　eg2：In his poem "My Papa's Waltz," Theodore Roethke explores his childhood with his father:

　　The whiskey on your breath

　　Could make a small boy dizzy;

　　But I hung on like death:

　　Such waltzing was not easy.

　　We Romped until the pans

　　Slid from the kitchen shelf;

　　My mother's countenance

　　Could not unfrown itself. (qtd. in Shrodes, Finestone, Shugrue 202)

　　3.在引语中添加或省略单词

　　如果你在引用中添加一个或多个单词，需要在单词周围加上括号，以表明它们不是原文的一部分：

　　Jan Harold Brunvand, in an essay on urban legends, states, "some individuals [who retell urban legends] make a point of learning every rumor or tale" (78).

　　如果你从引用中省略了一个或多个单词，你应该用省略号来指出被删除的单词，省略号是三个句号(…)前面和后面有一个空格。例如:

　　In an essay on urban legends, Jan Harold Brunvand notes that "some individuals make a point of learning every recent rumor or tale . . . and in a short time a lively exchange of details occurs" (78).

　　注意，省略号周围不需要括号，除非它们可以增加清晰度。

　　当从诗歌引文中省略单词时，需要使用标准的三句号省略;然而，当省略一首或多行诗时，将几个句号间隔到诗中一整行的长度：

　　These beauteous forms,

　　Through a long absence, have not been to me

　　As is a landscape to a blind man's eye:

　　. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

　　Felt in the blood, and felt along the heart;
